St. Mark UMC has a "Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Uttermost Part of the Earth" philosophy of missions. We reach out in love, service, and proclamation of the Gospel in our own community, state, region, and throughout the world.
Our local efforts include an annual Dementia Clinic, service projects, etc. We have sent mission teams to West Alabama for home repair and Vacation Bible School ministry through Alabama Rural Ministries. We have sent work teams to respond to the needs of those affected by Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Katrina. St. Mark has sent teams on international missions trips for many years.
"Faith Promise" is the extra mile giving program of St. Mark. Each year, the people of St. Mark pledge to give above their regular contributions to support ministries that proclaim the Gospel through words and deeds. We provide assistance to missionaries, service agencies, and children's homes in the Montgomery area and throughout the world. After each camp stew sale St. Mark donates quarts of stew to local missions that feed the hungry.
For several years we have had the opportunity to minister to homeless families by participating in Family Promise. For more information about this program, see http://familypromisemontgomery.org.
The people of St. Mark demonstrate a mission- giving heart in times of need, especially. Thousands of dollars have been given for relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes and the tsunami disasters. St. Mark also prepared dozens of health kits and several flood buckets, as well as giving food, blankets, diapers, and many other necessary supplies to ease the suffering of victims of hurricane, tornado or other disaster relief. |
