Our History
The tradition of our congregation spans over 100 years. Established in the late 1800's, St. Mark continues to serve the causes of Christ in the city of Montgomery. Over the years many things have changed, but our mission remains the same: to bear witness to the Good News and to enable disciples to be like salt and light in our community and the world.
Our church was established as a mission church in what is known as the Boguehoma section of Montgomery. In 1900 the church moved to the corner of Perry Street and Noble Avenue (shown here), where it flourished for many years, growing to over 600 members by 1955.

In 1979 the congregation took a bold leap of faith and voted to relocate the church. In 1983 a small but determined group moved from their midtown location on Perry Street and began building a sanctuary on the eastern fringe of the city. We held our first worship service in our new Taylor Road location on October 21, 1984.

We expanded our facilities in 1989, adding a fellowship hall and 6 classrooms. And in 1998 we broke ground for another expansion -- an education wing featuring 8 classrooms, laundry facilities, and men's and women's showers.
|
St. Mark continues to flourish as we boldly step out in faith. We are striving to be a vital, growing fellowship of believers who will have a positive impact for Christ upon our community and our world.
